Apple is pretty expensive, but I'm thinking of going with them in case the battery replacement goes wrong. Does Apple replace the battery in-store? Has anyone ever experienced any issues with the water resistance after replacing the battery with Apple? I'm sort of afraid that the sealing may be compromised and might not be the same after the battery change.

Apple replaces all of the water tight seals when replacing a battery.
Oh, I had no idea and that's great news! I don't see anything mentioned about Apple replacing all of the water tight seals though.

Apple does battery replacements in-store. And, as @i-Liam stated, they replace all the seals. That means Apple has all the equipment to replace those seals.

Now, for lots of different reasons many people choose to buy Apple products. One of those reasons is quality. And Apple has a reputation.

So you have to ask yourself this question…if Apple is known for quality and there is a reason people buy Apple products, why would Apple fail to restore the water resistance of the devices they service?

I mean, wouldn't there be an outcry over this by customers? Yet, that hasn't happened. Why? Because Apple doesn't just sell you a quality product, they fix it right too.

Are there issues some times? Do they screw up from time to time? Yes. But for the most part, you are going to get your device back with everything intact.

From a textbook perspective, the water resistance rating is preserved. But from a real world POV, it's tricky.

Restoring the water resistance seal involves scrubbing out the old sticky gasket. This requires a rotary tool or elbow grease. If they don't remove all of the old gasket, the new one will not adhere properly. Not every tech is going to do a 100% quality cleaning job.
