I really don't know why this thread hasn't been answered. I have the exact same question - namely, can the new rMBP run a 4K display at 60Hz (in clamshell mode).

Here's apple's official page for this question:

Using 4K Ultra HDTVs with Mac computers
Learn more about using 4K Ultra HDTVs with Mac computers.

MacBook Pro (Retina, Late 2013) computers can use 4K Ultra HDTVs.

4K Ultra HDTVs using these configurations are supported via the HDMI port:

3840-by-2160 resolution at 30Hz
4096-by-2160 resolution at 24Hz Note: Mirroring is not supported when using this resolution.
Additional Information

In addition to the 4K Ultra HDTV connected to the HDMI port, MacBook Pro (Retina, Late 2013) computers can also use one additional Thunderbolt display. For more information on using Thunderbolt displays, see Thunderbolt ports and displays: Frequently asked questions (FAQ).

But this doesn't really answer if it will be able to drive a 3840x2160 screen in clamshell mode at 60Hz which it SHOULD based on the fact that thunderbolt 2 includes support for mini display port 1.2 technology which DOES include 60Hz support for a 3840x2160 screen natively
