Will setting an iPad to manual disk on a new iTunes erase content?

Hi,

I have an iPad I wish to set to manual sync on a new iTunes/computer. If I plug the iPad into the new machine, will it erase the data, or can I still plug it into the new machine, set it to manual management, and then upload new content to it?
