Using the UK version and the most popular swears words come up as 'back' 'ship' 'can't'. I suppose it forces you to be more creative.

Also, if you use American siri does it expect an american accent? Doesn't seem to work as effectively for me.

That's a great question that made me laugh. Although my Wife's 4S has Siri, she finds it as annoying & useless as I do. Therefore its just an unused gimmick.

However I do understand it amuses many. We all have different preferences. One distinct advantage for Apple is Siri is a gimmick no one else has. Plus Apple really likes being the center of attention and will do anything to accomplish that.

Gimmick? Really?

Using your train of thought I guess that Safari could be a gimmick, too, huh? Siri is useful to some, just not useful to you. Is the learning curve too difficult for you?

Well that is a matter of opinion. A lot of people including my self think it's a useful feature that has a lot of potential. Unfortunately it's limited in its use outside the US at the moment as it doesn't support location based features anywhere but there. Once those are added I think I will find even more uses for it.

She'll most definitely let you swear, but she doesn't seem to like it...lol. :D (I apologize in advance if this offends anyone. I was just testing it out for the OP).

*edit* Apparently the screen shot did offend someone, as it was removed. I probably should've edited it from the get-go. Sorry about that! Here's an updated version that hopefully is more vanilla.

Always a problem in the UK, we have so many regional dialects, its difficult for the speech recognition to work (I remember many hours with my little girl's nintendo dogs, trying to get the sodding thing to understand our accents).

To be fair most of us UK residents don't understand scousers

Does it type swear words when you ask it to type an email or text message? I use slang when messaging some friends lol was glad that with iOS5 you can add words like '****' to the dictionary and they don't filter to shut or ship anymore :D

I constantly use it to organize my calendar and set up reminders. Creating a reminder through Siri is easier and faster than doing it manually. And believe it or not, Siri is extremely convenient when you are driving. It has been a genuinely useful feature for me.

Also, you don’t justify why you believe Siri is a gimmick. This makes your posts nothing but groundless statements. In the end it just makes you seem very cynical.

Safari is a web browser pretty standard on all Smartphones. Siri is more of a baby toy. I can look up any question I have in my browser and probably faster with my swype keyboard. Plus uses less battery power to do so. Siri is unique, but a baby toy. A gimmick, novelty , whatever you wanna call it.

2 things come to mind...

Obvious troll is obvious.

Or...probably more accurate...

Obvious Android troll is obvious.

We get it, you don't like Siri, can we just move on now please?

Can anyone clarify if the Siri country settings are for voice output only rather than what accent Siri is expecting?

I've finally managed to get Siri to say all the words apart from the c word. Still, it wasn't easy for her to understand them and takes a few attempts.

How exactly does siri learn your voice if it doesn't know what you are trying to say?! I'm not convinced it does.
