I have an iPod Touch which I use for general purposes, and am using a Nexus One on TMobile as well.
I'm headed to France next week, and have been playing with the Android version of Babel. With a text to speech add on, it lets me speak an English phrase into the phone, then it translates it to text, and speaks the phrase outloud in perfectly accented French. It's amazingly accurate and works really well.
I haven't been able to get similar utility on Apple devices. I think maybe the lack of good noise suppression on the iPhones and Touches limits the accuracy of speech detection. I'm wondering if the iPhone 4, with it's second microphone for better suppression of ambient noise will do a better job of speech recognition, and whether it will be able to match the text to speech capabilities. Any idea?
