I'm interested in picking up a non-retina mini if the prices hit rock bottom. I'm hoping for $125 to $150 for a 16GB model (or even less). Does anyone think this is feasible that no one will want the non-retina mini models once the 2nd gen hits?

Just to clarify - I mean USED prices on eBay and CL.

I really don't think it will be continued. It's already pretty cheap and I can't see apple selling an ipad for $200 or less.

Or, if it's continued, the mini 2 price is going up to to $500 range and this will stay where it is.

The used Ipad mini 1st gen will most likely be available for $180 - $200 after the new release.

I have a feeling that if the Mini 2 does come equipped with a retina screen, Apple will raise the price on it, and if the original Mini gets discontinued instead of discounted, used Mini will remain at $200+.

Whatever the case though, I don't see used mini hitting low-mid $100 for a long time. The 1st gen iPad still sells for at least $150, some more than $200

My plan was to buy the new Mini if it comes with a retina display then sell my current Mini, but I think I'll keep it and sell my Nexus 7 2013 instead.

True but the difference is that the iPad 1 went from $500 to $150 which is a 70% reduction. The mini starts at $330.

when the iPad 2 came out the iPad 1 didn't sell for just $150. I sold our iPad 1 on ebay for $289 weeks after the iPad 3 was announced. Sure, some people will be desperate to sell their 1st gen ipad mini....but the whole market isn't going to drop the price down to $100....unrealistic

The iPad 1 is obsolete. Until the Mini becomes obsolete it's not going to drop by 70%. Since the iPad 2 is supposedly still the most widely used iPad today (and still being sold new), I suspect it will be supported for another two years, hence the Mini.

I'd be amazed if the price dropped $50, assuming there is a retina Mini. They'll either yank it off the shelves like the iPhone 5, or offer an iTunes gift card until supplies are gone. Just a guess based on what I've seen over the past year. :D

Used ones will probably be $175-220. I think Apple will probably end up discontinuing it rather than sell an iPad for that cheap. Too cheap and it would hurt the sales of the retina Mini.

they wouldn't do it that cheap. it'd probably be something like $299 and retina would be $399. I bet they keep the budget mini around

Why does everyone think the mini's price is going to increase when it goes to a retina display? Regular iPad prices didn't budge.

bc there isn't much room moneywise when the device already sells at $329. Were you one of the guys that thought the original mini was gonna be $199? lol

My guess is the Retina Mini will stay at $329 for 16GB and the original Mini will drop to $229. Apple needs a device to compete against the Nexus 7 and Fire HD in price, and last year's mini is a good way to do it. We'll know in an hour or so.

I could see the first gen dropping to $299, and retina model starting at $399.

That might explain the somewhat odd $329 opening price of the mini.

I think you might be right. If you think about it, the iPad mini and regular iPad aren't all that different. Even the sizes are "similar" in the sense that an inch or two smaller in body size doesn't mean it costs Apple $200 less to produce the mini.

In other words, I believe the mini was $329 because it didn't have a retina display. If it includes a retina display, it is very much an iPad as the regular iPad and I bet the cost to produce one would be very similar. It was the non-retina screen that let them price the 1st gen at $329. I think we will see the iPad mini 2 at $399 if it includes retina.

No, just making an educated guess. Last year, everyone was complaining $329 was too high. I said at that time that the price was $329 so when iPad mini went retina, the price wouldn't change.

Gen 1 Mini stays, price lowered to $299. $200 for a used gen 1 Mini then.

I'm ordering the new retina Mini the first chance I get :D

Refurb direct from Apple for Gen1 Mini is now $249.

So I think you might be able to pick up a used Gen1 Mini for around $200-$220.

I wouldn't expect a fire sale.
