not activated? If they come to us activated, then I can just put in my current SIM card in it. If not, then we will have to go down to ATT for activation

to add to this question:

will all of my info/apps/music/etc that's on my current phone be synced up to the new one? as happens when replacing a damaged phone? i'm sporting the original 8g iphone still, so i haven't gone through the upgrade phase.

just as long as you hook it up to your Itunes and sync it you are good.

it should come activated for you, but if not, swapping sim cards will work just fine... no need for a trip to at&t.

still a little bit confused... so the new 3Gs that comes in the mail will have a sim card with my current number on it? what happens to my sim card in my old 3G phone?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5H11 Safari/525.20)

I believe like the first generation iPhone you will be able to activate at home.

No sure if it will have a sim it, but when you connect to itunes it will walk you though everything you need to do.

i see. didn't know itunes had an ATT activation "menu" for new iphones. thanks for the info!

So could I order one now then hang onto it for 1 month+ and activate it that much later without incurring any fees?

I'd be switching from Verizon, my contract ended last month.
