Hi,

I’m just looking for a computer that can handle some multitasking, like browser with a few tabs + email + word processing and can play the 4k videos I record with my phone and can do so fluently and with 0 fan noise. Will the i3 MBA suffice for this kind of use?

Thanks.

Apple doesn't support hardware decode of VP9 codec, so it's CPU based decoding. I may be wrong, but since Google likes VP my guess is an android phone will be doing VP9 for 4K videos.

So since the MBA isn't really aimed at sustained substantial CPU load, it's not the right tool if you need to work with 4K videos in a codec that's software decoded.

That said - with a supported codec the (or at least my) MBA is fine with playing 4K videos based on the few I've tried on Vimeo (have to override the auto as it defaults to 2K due to screen being less than 4K). Zero noticeable fan. YMMV.
