My memory may be failing me -- but when I bought the iPhone 4, I remember resetting my 3G and it saying that it was unlocked.

My current contract with AT&T has ended and will be renewed with the purchase of the iPhone 5. Once I plug it into iTunes, I'm assuming the iPhone 4 will become unlocked? Is this the same as a factory unlock? (I need the clarification for an ebay auction)

Thanks

You have to submit an unlock request for it here. You should become eligible once you activate your iPhone 5, but just try submitting it now.

Thanks so much.

I was lucky enough to get a preorder in and will receive the 5 on Fri the 21st.

I currently have an ebay auction for my 4 running which ends on Fri, and I would like to ship the 4 out by that mon/tues.

So yeah, I was thinking of submitting the request now, that way they would unlock it by next mon/tues and I could promptly ship the 4 to the auction winner.
