I miss emails all the time because the notification system is so limited. It is one thing when I have to wait 15 minutes but then to not hear or feel the alert! Wish Apple would take a look at what Blackberry has done. At LEAST make repeating alerts available for emails.

I the business world, emails are STILL important!:(

I would expect a better notification system to be the big feature of iOS5 but for the time being there are apps to help you out. I'd recommend the Pushmail app which is one of my favourites. You get a push notification for every email, there is a huge choice of alert tones, you can have it repeat the alert several times, you can set quiet zones (no notifications when you are asleep), you can set rules so you only get notifications for certain emails... Its brill and does exactly what you need

Yeah the notifications are the worst. Coming from an Android, I'm used to having the LED light up when I have an unseen notification. I also liked how they showed up in the notification bar, not just the icons. I hate having to unlock my iPhone just to see if I have any new messages or e-mails (in case I don't hear the notification).

not all android phones have this unfortunately...and although WP7 phones have it, it only blinks for missed calls. I don't know why...a notification LED is almost a brainless feature. No reason not to have it

I hope for this in the iOS 5 update. Maybe a little light inside the home button on the next iPhone? I don't care what Apple says, I want a light.

Having used both I think the notifications are much better on android with the drop down menu rather then then ios bubbles. I'm hoping Apple improves upon this with its next big software update. The main issue that bothered me on android was the fact that hardly any apps took advantage of "push" and depended on polling for data at set

Its not an iPhone 5 issue, in so far as being software, so its more accurately, will iOS 5 have an improved notification system.

People were hoping that iOS 4 would have this, but it never materialized, an given the competition's superior notification system, (webos, android, wp7), hopefully apple will indeed have that ready for iOS5
