the iphone 7/7+ had different modems ... one for AT&T and Verizon.

Any news if this is the case again. I will just buy the phone full priced and unlocked if that is the case again

TIA

We'll only find out when Apple delivers the phones into people's hands and folks at iFixit will crack it open.

Apple does not provide details to the components it uses.

The GSM (a1901) version will have the Intel modem like last year and the CDMA (a1865) version looks like it will have the Qualcomm modem compatible with all carriers, including GSM. Really a bummer, Intel doesn’t make a chipset that will support band 71 for T-Mobile and it doesn’t look like Apple included support for that band in the Qualcomm modem.
As far as unlocking goes, each carrier has their own set of requirements that must be met before they will unlock the phone except for Verizon.

I was worried about this again. Dang. Why can't they just use 1 modem.
I hate the fact you need a "verizon" based phone to be able to cover all carriers again.
