It seems that the two generations of actual AirPods Pro have the same dimensions. I have newish Pros so I am not going to buy the new ones anytime soon, but the features of the new case are actually compelling and don’t seem to be obviously coupled to the functions of the new AirPods Pro. Any word on backward compatibility?

I can’t see any reason why it wouldn’t. Assuming that the stem length is the same, and the connections are in the same spot to meet with the connectors on the case of the 1GEN AirPods Pro, it should work.
Mechanically, I agree - but given that the case and AirPods interact on a software level (charging, etc), the real question is whether the 2nd gen case firmware is compatible with the 1st gen AirPod Pro firmware. Backward compatibility would certainly seem possible, but not clear if they did the work to make it happen.
AND
I'm not clear that they're going to sell the 2nd gen case as its own product, at least at first, so this may all be moot. But dang, it would be nice to have precision finding and the case speaker for Find My in particular.

im looking also for a case, so as far as I understand, the AirPods Pro (1st Gen) Case should work with the 2nd gen AirPods Pro, correct? I wanted go get that Case here then:

Will not work. No way Apple will let you put your current Pros in the new case. You have to upgrade. They want your money. Not your wishes.
Did anyone actually try this already. I have AirPod Pros 1st gen and my case is about to die. I was thinking of getting the USBc second gen case. Would that work with my 1st gen airpod pros? As far as i understand in the first gen version the case was a dump case, so no find my, only charging and reset button. So i understand the second gen case wouldn’t work as such but it should just charge the AirPods Pro 1, right? Any experiences here?
