I'm not quite sure I get the question. I'm sure any new machines will come with the standard year of coverage then require the additional two years to be purchased for that specific machine.

If I bought the 3 year Applecare coverage for the current iMac, can I apply it to the new iMac?

No. You buy it for 1 machine, and thats that.

I'm asking if it is unused. Not can you apply it to multiple machines. :)

There are multiple Applecare extension plans in the past:
MA520LL/A (old version)
MD006LL/A (new version)

Can an unused MD006LL/A be applied to the new iMac (coming out today or sometime in the future)?
