Hello everyone,

I’m using an M4 Mac mini with a Studio Display connected via Thunderbolt 4, and I have been loving it. But there are some rumors about a new Studio Display with mini-led, so I’m thinking about getting that one as my main screen and using the current one as my second monitor for a dual monitor setup.

My main concern is Thunderbolt 4 bandwidth limitations. From what I understand, Thunderbolt 4 officially supports 5K at 60hz, but I’ve seen speculation that the rumored new Studio Display could support higher refresh rates (5k90hz or 5k120hz).

So my question is: Would the M4 Mac mini be able to drive a new Studio Display at 5K90hz or 5K120hz over Thunderbolt 4? Or are we limited to 5K 60hz per display?

What do you think?

The M4 Pro variant should be able to support 5K above 60Hz but the base M4 will be limited to 60Hz.

I'm pretty sure the Studio Display itself is limited to 5K/60Hz... doesn't matter what computer or connection you use it with.
