Yeah the new ones still support all the old wireless protocols. Just has the new AC band for the Airs and future releases.

One is not obliged to use Time Machine with a TimeCapsule. You can use it as a simple network hard drive. It works for all Macs and PC-s that support AFP and/or SMB/CIFS.
