Other Will the “pill” (and dynamic island?) go away by the 16 Pro/Pro Max? If so does that give anyone 2nd thoughts about upgrading this year?

If the rumors are true and Apple already begins phasing out the Dynamic Island, starting with the 16 Pro / Pro Max, does that give anyone pause about upgrading this year to the 15 series?

Of course the rumors could be wrong and the under display FaceID could be pushed back, like so many other rumored features have had happen over the years. Others on the forums are simply yearly upgraders and will upgrade no matter what. Just curious for your thoughts on if you plan on waiting for this particular design change or not 🙂

P.S. if you could also include your current phone type and why you plan to upgrade or not I’d appreciate it 🙏

It won’t be going anywhere even with face ID under display. There will still be a punch hole likely from all accounts. The features of the island would still work even with the main notch gone

I believe Dynamic Island is here to stay and will keep the same physical area, but the digital area will increase as more cameras and sensors are going under display. This would enable additional possible features

The ugly blob will disappear eventually, but we're stuck with its awfulness for the foreseeable, I sadly fear. It's incredible how Apple repeatedly double down on one of the ugliest design choices of all time- the notch- needlessly adding it to monitors that don't even have FaceID, and then taking away more iPhone screen space than the notch with the introduction of the island. Only way to make it even worse at this point is to stick it in the middle of the screen.

I agree with the others that the dynamic island will probably stay but the actual cutouts will disappear. I personally don't think the notch was "one of the ugliest design choices of all time" but that's just me. I likely will upgrade to the 15 pro max and then wait 2-3 years before I upgrade again regardless of when the faceID sensors go underneath.

Thank you for the update 🙂 Sorry for initially posting wrong information. Guess that makes the question irrelevant for this year, but was still helpful to see others replies regarding the idea that dynamic island will stay even if the pill is gone.

Even removing it in the 15 wouldn't get me to upgrade from my 14 Pro Max - it just doesn't bother me enough to be an incentive. I upgraded from the 12PM to the 14PM for the camera and I'm not sure what it would take to move me to a new model.

Dynamic Island as a UI interface will remain. When the hardware gets there it will only come up when needed.

I believe an all screen iPhone with no DI, if technically possible, will not show up until 2027 (20th anniversary). I don’t think the DI will change much between now and then, and I don’t think it needs to.
