iPhone SE (2020) Will the SE2020 be cheaper next month?

My ancient, much loved, original SE no longer holds a charge for any length of time and since it’s so old, I doubt it will get updates for much longer so I’m going to buy a new phone. I already tried the 12 mini, hated it, and sent it back.

I was going to buy the SE 2020 but then I heard that Apple will release the SE3 (or whatever it’s called) on 8th March. I don’t care about having the latest features. Will the SE 2020 drop in price once the SE3 is released? Is it worth waiting for that? Is this SE3 definitely going to be released that day? It’s a bit urgent now because I don’t have a spare phone and the battery on mine is so bad I can’t really use it without being near a charger.

March 8 is only 23 days away.
If you can, try to manage with what you’ve got until then.
I’d wait another three weeks if I was in your shoes.
2020 SE may drop in price once the next SE is revealed.

March 8th is just the rumored date of the event, not when it will be released. It'll likely be an additional few days after the event when pre-orders open, and then another week or so until they're available and start shipping. So you could be looking until mid to late March until it's actually available (that's assuming the event is in early March). Once it's released, Apple will probably stop selling the previous gen, but your carrier may still have it until supplies run out.

If you're otherwise happy with your current phone, you could just take it to an Apple Store, authorized Apple service location, or ship it in for a new battery. A new battery for this phone would be $49.

I can’t get the battery replaced because I don’t have a spare phone to use in the meantime. It would easily take a couple of weeks between posting it off and getting it back. Possibly longer right now because the postman keeps getting covid and we’re only getting deliveries twice a week. I can’t do without a phone for that long. I’m nowhere near an Apple store (or any phone store).

I didn’t realise they might stop selling the SE 2020 ?. I’ll be buying direct from Apple. Maybe I should just go ahead and get it now. The new one might be more expensive and I don’t need, or even want, 5G or any other fancy features they add to it. The only upgrade it would be worth waiting on is a better battery.

I don’t think the new phone will be more expensive. The SE is $399 and Apple is still selling the iPhone 11 for $499. There’s really not much room to increase the price, though I suppose they could stop selling the 11 too. But even then, it’d be getting close to iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 mini prices. Might be best to wait until the event to see whats new and it’s price. They should still sell the 2020 SE until the new one is actually released. If history is any indication, you’ll still have time between the event and actual release date to get the current model.
