Knowing that iphone 5/4s was going to be released soon I still signed a new 2 year agreement with at&t and got an iphone 4. I am pretty happy with it. But I remember that when iphone 4 came out, iphone 3gs owners were able to upgrade the iphone 4 while still being in the contract. Will something similar be done for the iphone 5? I asked a at&t rep about this and he said that last year it was that if you got a iphone 3gs within 60 days of the launch you would qualify. Also can someone tell me how much it would cost to upgrade from iphone 4? would i pay the usual discounted price or what?

No one knows. There has been no announcement yet. As far as I know you can return your phone within 14 days, but after than that you will have to pay the full price for a new phone.

How long ago did you get your iPhone 4? If it was in the past couple months you won't be eligible for any discount. Otherwise you might be available for either the reduced discount (~$400) or the full discount (~$200)

Here is the story from last year.

AT&T will offer those iPhone 3GS customers who purchases handsets between May 7th and June 7th the option to upgrade to iPhone 4, only paying applicable price differences. Customers who purchased a "closeout" iPhone 3GS after June 7th are not eligible for these offers.

*The iPhone 4 was announced on June 8th, so if you bought an iPhone 3GS 30 days before the new one was announced, you were allowed to Return/Exchange it for the iPhone 4 on June 24th.

If they DON'T release it soon and offer an upgrade promo, you will have to pay the full price no doubt.

If you bought iPhone 4 when it released last year, I am fairly certain they will offer a subsidized price.
