Apologies if this has already been addressed. I just want Spotify, Mail and Messages widgets for the home screen. I know Spotify is 3rd party, but what about Mail and Messages? Is Apple not planning to add those widgets for the Home Screen?

Not sure... but there should be. Puzzled why there isn’t. Especially for mail

With the way mail is screwed up, I wouldn’t count on it.
Apple seems to have lost any sense of interest or direction with Mail (iOS or Mac), so yeah, you're probably right.
I mean, for the most part, it does basic tasks in an adequate way, but it's clear it hasn't been looked at for some time.

As for Messenger, they seem more preoccupied with emoji than making the app more useful. So ditto there.

Obviously, their own apps that are meant to communicate information at a glance should have all had iOS widgets at 14's launch, but I fear 14 (and WatchOS) got rushed out the door because they needed something to give users who weren't going to be rushing out to get a new iPad or Watch. Had the waited until the new iPhones and MacOS were ready, these widgets might have been there. But now they're busy with 14.x.x patches (sorry, 'updates') occupying their time. Pity.
So 3rd Party apps will take up the slack (again) until Apple gets it's act together.

It came out around the same timeframe as previous major new iOS versions have.

Not a good enough reason. They've already delayed MacOS, and could have held out iOS until it was tied to a new iPhone - as they have done in previous years. Rushed 13 out the door last year, and we saw where that went for many. We need to stop having a Pavlovian attitude to Apple's self-imposed release dates.

I didn't provide any reasons, just commented on statements that were made in relation to iOS being out in the usual timeframe. None of that touched upon Apple being able to take some more time and have different release dates if they wanted to.
