I need a 15+ inch screen, but I otherwise would be fine with the MBA level computing power. I just can't stomach paying an extra 1500 dollars just to get a couple extra inches of screen size.

I'm getting pretty desperate for a new laptop. Will there be a cheaper 15+ inch laptop withIn the next year? Two years?

There have been no rumours on that so far + Apple hasn’t done it before so I wouldn’t bet on it.

We are discussing here:

There have been rumors on a 15" or 16" Macbook Air-like laptop:

Apple will not be releasing a "de-contented" 16" MBP with a less-powerful SoC or only 8GB of RAM / 256GB of storage to lower the price.

There are also reports that Apple has cancelled studies of a 15.4" MacBook Air so do not expect a model with a display larger than the current 13.3" model.

So that leaves a third-party sale (Amazon, B&H) that might save you a few hundred on a new base model 16" MBP. You can also go the Apple Refurbished route to save around 15%.

And two-years out, there will be people selling their 2021 models as they move to 2023 so that will likely save you some money.

Just give us a 15 inch screen on a lower end model. No expensive stuff like a notch, rounded corners, extra ram, faster processor, extra ports, etc. Keep all that stuff off it, just a give us a low end machine with a 15 inch screen.
