These are build-to-order options on the Apple site - just wondering if you've seen or know of retail stores selling this configuration.

At Least some are. I picked mine up yesterday. Has the 512GB SSD though since it is the "ultimate" config.
 
most carry the base models and some have the ultimates right now. You may get lucky and snag a mid, but it will be a hit or miss
 
Apple Westfarms had an 11" i7 2.0GHz/8GB RAM/256GB SSD for $1,649 the other day. It showed up on the iPad next to the display model so I think it will be a regularly stocked item.
 
They might have maxed-out versions. I wanted a 2.0 i7 with 8 GB but with the 256 SSD, they didn't carry those so I had to order.
 
apple rep through the online chat function on apple's website stated that no 8gb ram option was available in stores. then again, they have been wrong about other things before.
 
The NYC stores have virtually all the configurations in stock. I picked up an 8GB/256GB 11" Air on Tuesday. Oddly, if you attempt to order online to pick it up in the store, it doesn't show availability until June 26th, so it's better just to go to a store directly.
 
I called several stores and they only have the 13 in base (128gig and 256gig) models and then the ultimate with 512gig SSD. Not the versions in between (which is what I need - 2gh / 8gig / 256gig). You can order online and have it shipped to any store if you prefer (if you are traveling, etc)...thats what I did.

Soooo lucky!!! I think the 512GB is wayyy outside my price range. I also got back from a really expensive two week vacation to Japan, and thinking of going back in the next six months. Japan or Macbook.... lol Maybe 8GB and 256GB.

The official party line is stores don't carry anything but the four standard models and thats what those reps go off of. What's amazingly dumb was once in store, my friend had to do a web order in store pick up for an ultimate version, and the webstore required a 2 day shipping period even though the specialist had an ultimate version in her hands at that very moment!

The local apple store in Reston, VA I'm near has the ultimate 13 and the penultimate 11 (maxed out specs, but SSD at 256 instead of 512).

So you got yours too huh. Went after work and bought my 11"/i7/8gb/256gb a couple hours ago. My VM's happy now w/ 8 gigs.

This is great news. I need to pick one up before I head out of the country for about 2 months, and was afraid I wouldn't be able to find 8GB configurations in stock. (Guess I'll stop in the Philly store while I'm there tomorrow.)
