I imagine that a 15" i5 2.4 with a standard screen will run 'faster/better/longer battery etc etc' than a HiRes, because there is less screen real estate for the processors to deal with? Am I right?

I have the HiRes model I mentioned before.
 
The difference is negligible, but there. There isn't that much more processing involved, but you might be doing more with that extra space.

Strictly performance wise, there should be a very very tiny performance hit, the largest manifestations of this tiny tiny hit will find itself in high resolution video. You will struggle to find the loss.
