Having had problems with an aux to aux cable on my iPhone 4S I'm going to try a 3.5mm to Dock connector cable.

This is the one I'm looking at http://www.amazon.co.uk/Extra-Long-Better-Sound-Connector/dp/B004Z8ATQ8/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1320240111&sr=8-3

Presumably with it being a line out lead it will mean that the music WILL come out of the car speakers and not the internal speaker in the iPhone?

I've tried a similar cable in the past but the sound still came out of the iPhone - I guess it was wired differently?

Probably will work. The only problem I've run into with this type of cable is that there is no volume control of the audio coming out the dock connector, it's "full blast". I found that with my car stereo I sometimes had to back off the volume coming from the phone just a bit to eliminate distortion. This was using the headphone jack, now I use Bluetooth and seems OK.

Also of course you can't charge the phone while this cable is plugged in.
