Howdy, folks.

Windows user about to make the irreversible pilgrimage trip to Mac land. About to place an order for my first iMac ever. Specs below:

3.4GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7
8GB DDR3 SDRAM
1TB Fusion Drive
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2GB GDDR5

Looking to buy 32MB worth of RAM to switch out the default 8MB configuration. I came across this package on crucial.com, was thinking of buying 2 sets, and would appreciate it if anyone in the know can ascertain if this RAM is compatible with the 2013 iMacs:

Crucial Part No: CT3650282

DESCRIPTION: 16GB kit (8GBx2), 204-pin SODIMM Upgrade for a Apple iMac 3.4GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7 (27-inch, Late 2012) System.

Thanks!

I hope so , I bought the same thing!;)

32Mb  I hope you mean Gb :)

I got mine from Crucial, just go through the search thing on their site, it should point you too the right RAM type for the new iMac.

Oops! Yes, I did mean GB. Thanks for the catch. ;-)
Yeah, I actually did use the memory finder tool, but I didn't find an option for the 2013 iMacs. Perhaps I missed it. Do you by any chance have a link or a screenshot? Cheers.

Yes it goes by the release/announcement date which was Late 2012. We should see a 2013 but not until the 2nd half of the year at the earliest.

I saw listings on eBay for the 2012 iMac which was clearly the 2011 but they had happened to have bought it in 2012.

Gotcha. Thanks!

Then it should be 256 Gb though.

Most people don't need 32Gb, much less 256Gb. I figure it could be a good 5-10 years before the average desktop would need that amount.

That said when I got my G4 tower back in 2001 it came with 64Mb and 12 years later the iMac has 128 times that. And 256Gb is only 32 times 8Gb so it could come sooner than we think. Who knows, in 10 years 1Tb of RAM could be the base standard in your iPad, as we know desktops will be dead by then :)

I was rather alluding to the fact, that 256 Gb is 32 GB.

FYI: Toy those who are looking now, 2x 8GB appears to be Cheaper ($86.99 Shipping Incl) from Newegg right now, until Feb 25th it says!!

I also checked out newegg before deciding to go with crucial, only because I trust their products. Also, there are promo codes available for the crucial ram (10% off entire order), which I made use of.

**Cool.. So, would you Care to Share those Promo Codes with 'the little people in the Village' here.. Perhaps..?? :D

@bobcan:
Here you go. It's the first link labeled "5% Off". The discount is applied automatically upon selection of the RAM. I bought 2 packs of the 16GB kit (2x8GB), at $94.99. I'd compare with the RAM on newegg.com before making a decision. Good luck! :D
