Will this ram work?

Well for my 27 inch 2011 top end imac I accidently bought a 1x 4gb stick instead of 2x2gb. Is there any difference between having 4x2gb and 2x2gb and 1x4gb? The 4gb stick i bought is ddr3 1333MHz.

why don't you buy another 4g stick and be done with it.

I always heard buy them in pairs but the worst thing that can happen is that the comp slows down.

I doubt I will benefit from 12gb and idk if i want to spend another $40.
