On a family plan and my dad has a dumb phone with an upgrade. My dad is fine with his dumb phone that he hardly uses. So he will upgrade to an iPhone and then sell it and reactivate his dumb phone and drop the data package. He will keep the service for 2 years. Would this work?

Yes, as mentioned - it's possible and not a scam.

The phone will cost him about $280 when all is said and done (including taxes, upgrade fees, and the month of the data plan) and be able to sell it for about $400... and then be stuck, on an overpriced contract, with a low end phone for another 2 years.

Ok thanks, My dad can barely use the phone he has now, his line only costs me 16.31 a month and he used a whopping 23 minutes last month lol
