Ok, so I have an iPhone 3G that isn't eligible for an upgrade until March. Can I just add a new line and get a 3G S then swap the sim cards and remove the data plan on the new line. Then I would only have to pay $9.99 ($7.99 with my fan) a month extra until my first line can be canceled in a year.

Is that possible?

i believe so, there have been many threads about doing this exact thing

yes im doing the same thing. AT&T (611) said all i need to do is go to an AT&T store and they would replace the serial number from my old 3g with the new 3gS and the cancel the data plan on the new phone and i only have to pay the 9.99

It is not possible if you already have an iphone. You cannot just add a line for $9.99 - you will be forced to add the $30 data plan.

Well i sold my previous phone so AT&T said I could still remove the 30 plan so I plan to
