Will Time Machine Backup From One Partition to Another

i understand that it will backup from one external drive to another, but can it backup from one partition to another within the same drive?

also, i have a 300GB drive (unpartitioned) that is full with time machine backups and some other data. how can i delete some of the older backups manually to free up a little space for more data?

Not sure, but I strongly recommend against backing up from one partition to another unless you are doing it to avoid human errors. If the HD has a hardware failure, you would lose your backup.

after pondering over this. i think you are right. i'm better off buying two separate hard drives.
