We have mobileme on our computer and it can check both iphone locations in the family. My phone is an 8GB without GPS and apparently the "Find my iphone" app locates where the phone is by cell phone towers. My question is, if I turn my iphone off, can "Find my iphone" app still locate where I am? Thanks for your help.

You can try it, but not even the mighty iPhone can report its GPS location when its turned off. As in powered off I take it you mean? If you just hit the sleep button, then it can still find you....

in response to The General...

I was curious if I powered the phone back on, would it be able to tell where I was previously? Thanks. I know, weird question. Thanks for not asking why I am asking this.

No.

And its ok, I'll just assume you are trying to dodge your parents or stole the phone and want to get away with it.

nope...

none of those situations apply. Thanks for your help. :)

Of course they don't. ;)

I would buy myself a dumb GSM phone with no GPS if I wanted to dodge the wif... errr, I mean, be free from possible tracking by.... anyone I guess. :D

Although, they could still track you through cell towers. Better stock up on quarters for the pay phones. (Do these exist anymore?)

I think I'll turn my phone off when I go shopping for my wife's bday, I wouldn't want her to see where I'm going to buy her stuff at... Same will hold true for Christmas as well.

Hey, those are the only times of the year I can actually stroll into Victoria's Secret with a valid reason and linger....

First of all...

if anyone's wife is smart enough to think to use this to track where you are, then you deserve to get caught. You could use a different password to keep her out of mobileme.

What's really funny is: my wife still calls every 5 minutes and asks me if I'm almost home from work yet. I say: "quit calling me and check on mobile me!" she never does though.
