As of yet there's no firmware flash for the Aluminium Macbook drives. When I try to use VLC it plays the copyright warning signs from the dvd then crashes. Is this a fault of VLC or is it refusing to read from the region locked drive?

I would think that the mere fact that it can read the warning signs means it's not region locked but perhaps the warning signs aren't region locked, the movie is.

Best,
James.

I read somewhere that VLC is region free.. Just make sure to change your default DVD player and after the initial Region set, you should be able to play other DVDs in VLC without worrying ab the region... Hope it works.
