Will we still be able to buy the iPhone 4G for full price without a contract, or proof of AT&T service as Apple recently started doing?

For the 3G and the 3GS it took about 6 months before AT&T allowed selling the phones without contract.

Yup. Expect the new iPhone to be sold with contracts only at launch. You'll probably have to wait a while if you want to buy it contract free.

Wondering if anyone went through this last year. Did anyone go into the store and did not have an early upgrade or full upgrade, but was still able to get the iPhone 3GS at an early upgrade price?

If the iPhone 4G cant be bought without a contract...

for 6 months like the 3GS then the only way to get one in the near future is to sign up and cancel the contract after 30 days.

Or am I missing something here in the threads about canceling a contract vs buying one without a contract?

Thanks

You could only buy it without a contract if you don't qualify for an upgrade. So that would be unsubsidized pricing. But you need an AT&T contract to begin with.
