Apple has a few newer patent applications for the Smart Cover. I'm wondering if we'll ever see some of these things incorporated in to the Smart Cover. I think it would be really cool.

Interesting, so the Smart Cover is also a battery that charges the ipad? How do you charge the cover lol

Rumor was it was the way Apple would introduce wireless charging. For some reason they couldn't include wireless charging into the iDevices themselves, so they opted for doing so via the accessory.

Again. Just a rumor. Might have read on Engadget or BGR? Maybe even here. Whoever remembers?
 
Hmm, a cover that charged a retina mini could be a bodge to keep the battery at 10hrs.
 
i think we'll see new shaped smart covers for the redesigned iPad 5, but i can't see these patents working there way into a product this year. All guess work of course
