Will word/excel play nice with pages/numbers

So I have the Mac Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel on my MacBook pro. Since there's not an app for the iPad, I thought bout getting pages and numbers since they work in the cloud. Will they play nice with each other? Such as if I create an excel document on my computer and put it in the cloud, will it open ok on the iPad in pages?

Would that even work?? I'm not exactly sure how iCloud works especially with documents. Thanks

iWork and Office have numerous formatting subtleties which cause formatting quirks. If you're in an enterprise environment you will want to stick with Office. If compatibility doesn't matter as much, go for iWork.

If you have merged cells in your Excel document, Numbers will unmerge them. It gets real ugly, I gave up on trying to manage Excel spreadsheets on my iPad. In all fairness, the mobile version of Excel does it too.
