Willl Iphone4 sim in a different phone (not a iphone)?

Hiya,

My girlfriend contract with o2 is up and can upgrade to the iphone 4 for £179 16gb.

But my girlfriend dont wont the iphone4 and wants to keep her old phone and contract and i was going to have her new iphone4

so my question is will the new micro sim she is going to get will it still work in a different phone (i no she will have to get a sim adaptor thing).
