considering a NAS for just backup (no streaming, file serving, etc) to 3 machines, some Win some OSX

seems like i don't need the most robust hardware since its just backup but do think i need 4 bay for extra redundancy, right?

if so, any thoughts on the ds414 vs the newly released drobo 4 bay and/or 5d?

i'm leaning towards the synology even though the drobo seems very easy to manage as there seems to be a very vocal population that absolutely despise drobo. i know forums all all about reporting issues, but i can't (or didn't) find the same level of vitriol for synology.

Dunno about the windose boxes, but you can set up TimeMachine on the OSX computers to alternate backups between two or more drives. So you get redundancy by using plain old drives... no need for expensive RAID nonsense, unless you think you need more than 4TB storage for each computer's backup.
