I'm new to Apple and OS X and I was wondering what mac users use to open compressed files like .zip and .rar files.

Normally on windows I'd used Win RAR or something like that. What can I use one OS X? I'm preferably looking for a free software

Any input would be helpful. Thanks

And I will second The Unarchiver ( :D ) since it will handle RAR files fine (passworded or not) as well as .sit files and many other types. Maybe I have missed it but UnRARX seems like a one trick pony- and I personally prefer to have one app to handle multiple decompression duties.

If you got those files where they replace the extension with .002, .003, or if you have trouble picking up the files.

Sometimes simply going to terminal and using cat helps.
