Not technically a HomeKit question I think (unless existing Nest devices will indeed get Matter support through firmware updates), but not really sure where else to ask and I'm hoping someone maybe has come across the same question and did find a solution.
We recently got a Nest thermostat installed in our home. Other than a Nest smoke detector, we don't have any other Google Home devices and all other smart home devices are HomeKit-enabled, so are all automations.
I'm trying to find window sensors not for security reasons but to detect if a window is open and if that is the case turn off the AC/heating in Nest. Because right now Nest doesn't work with HomeKit, I'm not necessarily looking for HomeKit-enabled sensors, but obviously it doesn't hurt if they could be integrated eventually.
I'm a little lost where to even start and overwhelmed when trying to google a solution. There seem to be a gazillion sensors available, most from dubious Asia-noname companies. Also, I wouldn't really know how to automate this as I'm really not familiar with Google Home at all (we got the Nest smoke detector before Nest belonged to Google and as otherwise 100% Apple users have no other investments in the Googleverse) and still completely new to smart thermostats to begin with.
Any ideas or recommendations, both for specific sensors and/or how to actually automate this use case?
Thank you!
