I just thought I would share this, just in case anyone might find this useful.
I'm using my iPhone 5 at the moment until my replacement iPhone 6 arrives (issues, repair, lonnnng story!) I hadn't connected my 5 to my Windows laptop since before I updated the laptop to Windows 10. I had experienced issues with the iPhone 6 and my iPad not being recognized by iTunes and I easily fixed that with this method:

However, today, Windows 10 kept starting up some "Companion" thing when I connected the iPhone 5, and right clicking my iPhone in Explorer didn't show any Properties tab, so I didn't see how I could update the drivers as mentioned in the above link.
I finally went to Settings-Devices and removed the iPhone. Then I disconnected it from the laptop and reconnected it. iTunes saw it and Windows installed the correct drivers for it. Problem solved.
