I'm trying to get Windows 10 running on my 2009 iMac running Catalina with the Dosdude patch. Bootcamp didn't seem to be working (it just hung on the partition), but I was able to get the drivers onto a USB stick. I did a manual partition of the hard drive and formatted the part I intend to be for Windows as Ms-dos(fat). I also burned the Windows 10 ISO to a DVD which I am booting to for install.

The Windows install screen comes up, but when I try to install it on the Windows partition I get an error message that says it can't be installed there because the disk is of the GPT partition style. I have done a good bit of looking online and there is a lot of conflicting information and various suggested remedies, a few of which I have tried but haven't worked. From what I have seen and can understand, it seems that older Macs are somewhat different than newer ones which are more easily able to run later Windows versions.

Is anyone aware of a straight forward explanation, or better yet a step by step video, that explains how to get past this error message and complete the installation process. Bonus if it also explains the driver installation process after Windows is installed :)

Thanks very much for any help.
