I've installed a small Windows 10 Bootcamp partition on my iMac (Retina 5K, late 2014). I use a third-party USB mouse, and when I boot up in Windows it doesn't always recognise the mouse fully. By "fully" I mean I can click on the desktop and I can see the arrow, but nothing responds to my clicks. When I click in the taskbar nothing responds. I have to shut down via the power key and restart. Sometimes it takes two or three restarts before it will recognise the mouse; once it does, I can carry on just fine for the rest of the session.

I've updated the mouse drivers, but it's made no difference. Interestingly I tried the procedure using my wireless Magic Mouse and got the same result, so it doesn't seem to be specific to the mouse. Anyone got any ideas for a fix? It's not a major problem, but it can cost me a good 20 minutes sometimes. Sadly I don't have a PC available for a side-by-side test with the mouse.

On odd occasions I get the same sort of thing on my MacBook Air when I power it up - but without even using BootCamp. Just the other morning I ended up unplugging and plugging the receiver in any number of occasions, wriggling the mouse like some sort of crazy woman, talking (yelling) to it (said I look like a crazy woman!) before it suddenly decided to start working...

The Air was fine, the trackpad moved the cursor happy as anything, the external mouse though...

Still having this problem. I thought it was maybe because I had an external hard drive plugged into one of the other USB ports, but I removed it today and the problem persisted. Yes, I have tried moving the mouse to other USB ports on the Mac and, yes, all the ports are in working order.

Try SMC/NVRAM reset ... That may solve issues..

NVRAM/PRAM :https://support.apple.com/en-au/ht204063
SMC: https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT201295

Mouse works perfectly in MacOS, it's only in Windows that I have this problem. Would this have any effect on Windows?

I suppose I could try deleting and re-installing the mouse driver, as opposed to merely updating it, but I've never worked in a Windows environment so I don't really know how to go about this. [Heads to Google...]

You can also try uninstall/reinstall Boot camp drivers in Windows

I agree, try re-installing the bootcamp drivers in Windows.

As a side note, I got fed up with running Windows 10 in bootcamp with all of it's issues a few years ago, and now run Windows in a virtual machine under OSX. It's been less work to maintain, and makes it very portable should I decide to move to a new computer.
