Windows 7 on Mac without DVD?

Hi there,

My DVD Rom is broken, and I want to install Windows 7 on my Mac. I've been reading quite a bit around here, and everybody says it is too painful to try to do this without the DVD, and its better if I just buy an external one.

However, I really don't want to buy the extra device. Is there a way to install Windows 7 on Mac then?

Thanks for reminding me that the OP did not clarify how he wants to install Windows - Boot Camp or as VM.

As others have said I believe Parallels/Fusion would be the only way.
AFAIK bootcamp requires the disc.

Interesting, why can't you do it over USB? Macs will certainly boot from USB no problems.

But Windows will not, unless with modifications. I don't know if Windows can be even installed via an external ODD.
