I still have a few PC based software programs I can't use without having Windows so I installed the Mac program Parallel. Do I need to install an "anti everything" protection software when I open Parallel to run my Windows programs?

I've used W7 (and now using W8) mainly for MSOffice applications and did never bother with any protection (apart from the one that comes with the Windows, I believe it's Defender, not sure).

For me it was a matter of risk assessment. I don't use W for Web browsing of any sort.

Not sure if it was (is) wise. So far, never had any problems.

If you don't plan on using the internet through windows, you will not necessarily need antivirus and spyware protection, etc. However, you can still get viruses through certain files that you may copy into your parallels. I would recommend you install Microsoft Security Essentials at the very least. It's free, lightweight and stays out of the way.
