sorry if this is a noob question. im not at my mac and need a big file. can i download a dmg program on my pc save it on disk when i get home install if from my disk.

You can download and save and burn any files you want. You just won't be able to execute a .dmg on the PC or an .exe on OSX. (obviously, excluding windows on mac)

OK. Let us be clear. You cannot execute a .dmg file on any computer running any OS. A .dmg file is a disk image file. It is data. Although a .dmg file may contain an executable application and may be executed from within a mounted .dmg file, the .dmg file itself cannot be executed.

OTOH, .exe files are Windows executable files. They can, of course, be executed.
