I am trying to change the backgrounds in my windows from white to a picture, Ive followed the instructions but I havn't had any luck on making it work. Is there something I'm missing?

I am running Snow Leopard. And the instructions that are built into the mac

You mean these I suppose?

Changing a window’s background

You can use a color or photo as the background of a Finder window.

To change a window’s background:

  • Open the window and choose View > As Icons.
  • Pictures and colored backgrounds are visible only when items in a window are viewed as icons.
  • Choose View > Show View Options.
  • Under Background, select either Color or Picture.
Color: Click the color box and select a background color.
Picture: Click Select and choose the picture you want to use.
White: Return the background to normal.
  • If you want every Finder window on your computer to have this color or picture as its background, click “Use as Defaults.”

If a picture is large, you may need to resize the window to see it all.

Have you regarded that the window(s) need(s) to be in ICON VIEW (Command + 3)?

yes, and I can get to change the background to a single color, but I cant get the photo to work.

Mac OS X 10.6.4. I can get some images to display only the top half of the page and some images wont even show up at all

edit: the pictures im getting are the ones you use for desktop wallpaper apple has built in
