I have an external hard drive that has an encrypted windows password from a previous work laptop. The problem is that I don't remember the password or have the laptop anymore. I can't open the USB drive on the Mac now and not sure if there's a program or way around the password to unlock it?

Any help would be mostly appreciated.

Cheers

Can you just use Disk Utility and reformat it? If you're saying you need to preserve the contents, I don't think there's a way to do that.

Quite possibly. I'm not really clued up on these things but I will look into.

Thanks for the advice. If you have any tips around the procedures that will take then please feel free to share.

I'm guessing the drive was encrypted with BitLocker To Go. If so, you need a windows PC/bootcamp/vm to plug it in to. Then you need the password or BitLocker Recovery Key to mount it. Without either of those, you're toast I'm afraid.

Bit locker to go sounds familiar. Had a feeling it might not be possible.

Cheers
