I am still pretty new to all of this so please excuse any terms that I use incorrectly.
I have a mid-2010 MacBook Pro that I installed a 500GB SSD in and 16GB of memory. I wanted to make this my ultimate compatibility machine. My goal was to install 10.6, 10.13, 12.5, and Windows 10. After some trial and error and using a different brand of SSD, I finally got it to work with the exception of Windows.
At some point during the process, I updated the MBP firmware and now it net boots to 10.13. It did not have this capability previously. I think this update also allows EFI booting. I installed 12.5 with OpenCore and to boot 10.13 and 12.5 I have to use the OpenCore EFI boot loader.
I made a partition for in 12.5 using Bootcamp. I followed the instructions on this video by Mr. Macintosh-
Here is the interesting part, according to Mr. M I should only have been able to install Windows from a DVD. I think because of the updated firmware, I was only able to use a flash drive. In fact, when I tried to install from the DVD I couldn't. I went through the install process from a flash drive.
After the install, the computer booted into Windows 10 and I installed Bootcamp drivers as per Mr. M's video. When I restart the computer boots to the Windows logo, then says "Preparing Automatic Repair." Then the screen flashes and it reboots It will keep doing this until I hold down Option during start-up. When I choose Windows, the same process happens again, except this time, it asks me to restore from a restore point. I am then able to boot into Windows. But as soon as a shutdown or restart, the cycle starts again. One more thing worth mentioning, I can only boot to Windows from the OpenCore EFI boot loader.
In my frustration, I deleted the Windows partition. I figure, this way I can start fresh once I figure out what was wrong.
