Can someone tell me if 'Windows Live Hotmail Plus' works with Apple Mail?

Can I send and receive (hotmail) e-mails in Mail without going onto the internet to the hotmail site?
I will still use the online hotmail, when I'm away from my computer.

One on my friends suggested using Gmail, but there's too much hassle changing everything over. And I mean everything... all my internet shopping accounts, all the forums account, all my contacts I have stored... plus I want to keep using Adium (all my friends have hotmail and MSN on Windows, but iChat doesn't work). So I don't want Gmail for sending them all e-mails while still using hotmail to chat... I'd rather they'd all be under the one account (hotmail).

I have set up a "test" account with Gmail. Its ok , but I think because I've been using hotmail for years it just seems really different and I have to say it... I don't like it. (this is on the website site access) - it seems very cluttered, I don't like that replies are kept in threads in one e-mail, you can't customize it... I know I'll p*ss some people of but I love hotmail.
On the plus side, it does what I want hotmail to do... it allows me to view, create and send e-mails in Apple Mail with no problems, while also having the ability to access it online when I'm away from home.

Thanks for any information.

You might try the HTTPMail plugin. However, I should warn you that when I try to use it, it just beachballs, and I can't even uninstall the plugin. Even if I re-install Mail it's still there.

Yeah I tried that plugin but it only works with older hotmail accounts, and that all new 'windows live' ones are blocked.

I have/still using Izymail to received and send e-mails by my hotmail account in Mail... but recently ALL e-mails (plain text, or photo/files attached) are all blocked when sent to another hotmail address... It's something that's added when sent using Izymail and hotmail blocks them, even though the original sender is in the Safer Sender list.

I'm paying for that the now, and the year subscription is up in the next week or so, so that's why I'm looking to just using Hotmail Plus. If it can send and receive message without the "blocking" problem... I assume it can as it'll definitely be hotmail sending them and not it being sent through Izymail.... Hope that's not confusing :D

Geez, with all those problems... what's the reason you folks are still using or attempting to use Hotmail?

I use GMail myself, and can't imagine using any other email system, particularly since it gives me secured POP3 access as well as web access.

Also, if you use Adium (or some other multi-chat system aggregator) you can keep IMing with everyone anyhow.

Yeah ok, I like the fact that you can get it working in Mail.... but my downside is: using Gmail, there's too much hassle changing everything over. So that's why I'd like to give hotmail a shot.

One Solution

The Microsoft Office suite for mac has a program inside called Entourage. It is an email client like Outlook or Outlook Express and works perfectly with Hotmail. It is the way to go for Hotmail on the Mac. You can even import your contacts from Outlook of you have any. It stays open in the dock and even shows when mail comes in! I use it daily, and it works great.

You can use the httpmail plugin to work with Windows Live mail

You can use the httpmail plugin to work with Windows Live mail, or least you can using the v1.49 plugin on Tiger. Settings are as follows:
Incoming mail server- mail.live.com
username- ~username~@live.com (you need to include the live.com part of your username)
outgoing mail server is services.msn.com

everything else should be already set by the plugin

A Windows Live Hotmail Plus subscription is required. <<<< this error keeps popping up when I try to verify my hotmail account... can anyone help... not sure where to get Live Hotmail Plus???

Gmail is crap. Regular gmail is fine but google apps is the worst. I can't get any email to my own domains cuz I get fatal error all the time and user not found. It's the way they are setup. Lots of others have also noticed this. Hotmail widnows live desktop app is the best. I just switched no problems.
