Whenever I try to open WMP, I get the message that the "aapplication quit unexpectedly". Every once in awhile, it wil open, but 90% of the time it won't. I tried deleting it and re-installing it, but it still does not work properly. Any thoughts?

Well, I'm not sure as to why WMP is doing that, but to call the Macintosh version of WMP, which hasn't received an update like in forever, good software would be charitable. The lack of scrubbing and when pausing and playing clips sometimes causes the video and audio to be out of sync. Fortunately there are plenty of alternatives.

Thanks for the info! I'll be downloading one or all of those programs tonight. One more quick question... I tried throwing WMP in the trash and then emptying it, but it says "cannot complete process because _________ file is blocked" (all things to do with WMP). How do I unblock them so I can delete WMP from my system forever?
You might want to hold off on the Flip4Mac plugin. There are problems with the new iLife applications.

I m currently using flip4mac and dont have any problems. I have hundreds of wmv files downloaded from the net. All of them work with this plugin.
VLC is capable of handling some older versions of WMV... it's often touch and go.
Once the Flip4Mac problem gets fixed, I'd recommend using that, as it performs quite well.

I recommend Flip4Mac. I use iLife '06 and haven't noticed any problems with it and Flip4Mac yet.

You should be holding down Option and then choosing (and holding) Empty Trash from the Finder pull down menu.
No, it says locked, and then when I press the continue button, it keeps bringing up aspects of WMP that are locked and cannot be thrown away. I held down option, selected empty trash, and it still will not let me. Hmm, weird....
Well, Flip4Mac started causing QuickTime to crash, for some reason. I was watching a few .mov files and it would just crash randomly while watching them. Deleted Flip4Mac and now it doesn't crash on the same videos.
I guess it's back to Windows Media Player for .wmv files.

Yep, I was using 2.0.1.
Honestly, I'm willing to deal with the crappyness of Windows Media Player, since it doesn't interfere with QuickTime. I just wish Microsoft would have made a decent version of it for Mac, or at least fixed a few bugs and made it run better before they decided to abandon it. Anyone that has WMP for Mac, go try to change the skin to "Modern." That will crash WMP if you're on Tiger.
I wouldn't mind using WMP at all, but I could only get it to open maybe 5 or 10 percent of the time. You'd think there'd be an acceptable Mac version, but hey... c'est la vie!
