I recently upgraded to the latest version of iTunes on my PC (12.7.3.46).

Now, iTunes won't recognize my iPod. It doesn't even show up after plugging and unplugging, rebooting the computer, rebooting the iPod, or deleting the iPod from Device Manager.

Obviously if I have removed it from Device Manager the computer is recognizing the iPod. I am running Windows 10. The iPod is on iOS 9.3.5 which is the latest version available for it (5th generation).

I am about to run out of room on the iPod and it has serious battery issues, though it is not a huge concern because I only use it to play music in the car. But it is frustrating to take the iPod from the computer where it has been plugged in all night and to take it to the car and it is dead. It will sit there and boot loop if I plug it into the usb port of the head unit, but if I plug it into a charger though the cigarette/accessory port, it will charge fine. I have been doing that and just using Bluetooth to stream from the iPod to the head unit, but often when I go back in the car after being out of it for a while the two won't sync up and I have to "forget device" and resync the iPod.

Anyway, that isn't as important as this issue. I bought some CDs that I would like to copy to the iPod but obviously I can't. Purchased music from the iTunes store shows up fine because when the iPod is on WiFi it downloads the songs that way. But I buy CDs about 50% of the time and iTunes songs about 50% of the time.

I am ready to get rid of the iPod since it is only 64gb and the battery issue, but I was really holding out for a 256gb version. With my luck they will announce one after I buy a 128gb but that hasn't happened so far. I am also not going to waste my money replacing the battery. I do plan on walking once spring comes so it would be nice to have music, but I will buy a new iPod at that point rather than fight with this one.

Any help would be appreciated. This issue just popped up when I upgraded to the newest iTunes version. I have had other hiccups like music not copying, iTunes trashing a lot of my artwork on the iPod, etc but a full restore always fixes those problems. So I can live with that.

Thanks.

ps. I don't really want to use a 256gb iPhone as an iPod. I like the tiny form factor of the iPod touch and I don't use it for anything other than playing music. I have a great Android phone (yes, i am equal opportunity) with a nice big screen and long battery life and a big data plan (not unlimited but more than enough for me. I get a nice employee discount on my plan , and Verizon doesn't offer the discount on unlimited plans, at least not that I am aware of. I also get a bill credit equal to 50% of the monthly cost of the phone which is really nice). I could use the phone as a music player but I like keeping the music and my pictures/documents/videos on separate devices.

Ok, an update. When I plugged the iPod in, it asked me if I wanted to trust the computer. I accidentally clicked no. So then I went into preferences, advanced, reset warnings. Then I plugged the iPod in again and trusted it. But it still refuses to show up in iTunes. I did a little searching around and one solution was to install the MTP Porting Kit. No luck.

So then I went into preferences in iTunes on the computer, advanced, reset warnings. Then I plugged the iPod in again and allowed transfers. But it still refuses to show up in iTunes. I did a little searching around and one solution was to install the MTP Porting Kit. No luck.

I followed the instructions here.

1 and 2 didn't apply.

Installed MTP porting kit. No luck.
Ran registry editor. That string wasn't found. No luck.
Ran the command prompt one. Unplugged iPod and plugged it back in. Spinning wheel on iPod for a while. Still no luck.

I could use any advice at this point. My next step will be to contact Apple support.
[doublepost=1517166738][/doublepost]Old thread from 2014 says to reinstall iTunes. I will try that and report back.

Success. Reinstalled iTunes, works fine. Deleted everything that said Apple and Bonjour, rebooted, ran the installer, it gave me the option to repair or remove, removed, rebooted, ran the installer again, installed iTunes, rebooted, loaded iTunes, plugged in iPod.

I'll fade back into the shadows now. Hope this helps someone.
