I'm trying to get a PC portable running Vista to access a folder on a Mac. I only have access to the PC once every week or two.

We can sometimes get it to work with an ethernet cable between the two computers. After the iMac shows up on the Vista Network and Sharing panel we can get a little window to come up on Vista where we can type

192.168.0.177\pcaccount

and can get in that way. I tried doing it twice in a row after pcaccount on the iMac crashed for some reason. We couldn't get the iMac to show up again at Vista's Network and Sharing panel.

I want to be able to get the iMac Airport to create a wireless network, then get the PC to connect to it and access a folder on the iMac, or access a folder from a remote iMac that has been mounted on the local iMac.

I can connect Vista to the iMac created wireless network, which appears at 127.0.0.1, but I can't get the little window to show up where I can type in 127.0.0.1\pcaccount. I don't know if I can do Windows Sharing to a PC over an iMac created network, or if there is something I'm not doing correctly on Vista. I shudder at the thought of having to learn much about Vista.

Any thoughts? Is there anything in Leopard that would make this easier?
